Fawn M Brodie

This post is dedicated to Fawn M. Brodie

Born – September 15, 1915 – Died –  January 10, 1981

She would have turned 103 years old – if any of you like to read and want a good book – I mean, a book where YOU REALLY get into it – Please pick up one of hers!

Here is a quote Fawn:

She has written some incredible books. IN FACT – I really enjoy her writing style. Very brilliant. I wish I could have met her.

Fawn Brodie’s father was LDS Prophet David O. McKay’s brother. She was known nationally for her historical works on Thomas Jefferson and Richard Nixon, but among the Mormons was best known as author of “No Man Knows My History”, a biography of Joseph Smith, Jr.

This interview is adapted from an audio taped interview by California State University – I posted a sample of this HERE =

Q: What was your mother’s reaction to your disbelief in Joseph Smith’s divine calling as a prophet?

A: Mother was a kind of quiet heretic which made it much easier for me. Her father had been nominally devout but as president of the Brigham Young University he had brought in people like G. Stanley Hall and John Dewey as lecturers, and philosophers and psychologists who were fascinated by the Mormon scene. He was a very open minded man and a fine educator. Some of this rubbed off on my mother and so I say, “My grandfather was not a heretic, but his children were,” or rather some of them were.

Q: What about your brother and sisters?

A: Well, my brother is still a devout Mormon but my sisters are all, what we call, “Jack Mormons,” since they are still technically in the church but they are not active and they don’t go along with the Mormon dogma. They still count themselves Mormons.

Q: Do you?

A: Oh, no. I am an excommunicated Mormon. I was officially excommunicated when the biography of Joseph Smith was written and published. About six months after publication, there was a formal excommunication.

Q: Would you care to explain more about that?

A: I was excommunicated for heresy–and I was a heretic– and specifically for writing the book. My husband was teaching at Yale at the time and we were living in New Haven, CT. Two Mormon missionaries came to the door and presented me with a letter asking me to appear before the bishop’s court in Cambridge, MA to defend myself against heresy. I simply told them, or wrote a letter telling them, that I would not go because, after all, I was a heretic. So then I was officially excommunicated and got a letter to that effect.

Q: This was because of writing the book “No Man Knows My History?”

A: That is right.

Q: Were you allowed ample access to records and manuscripts when you were writing the book?

A: Almost all of the material in the book came from three great libraries. At the University of Chicago, where I was working after I married Bernard, there was really a great collection of western New York State history so by going through the material I was able to find out something about the sources of Joseph Smith’s ideas, particularly the ideas which went into the writing of the Book of Mormon. I finally ended up going to Albany, NY, where all the newspapers were kept which were published in Joseph Smith’s own hometown in Palmyra, NY. So I was able to read the newspapers he had read as a young man. This turned out to be an absolute gold mine!

A lot of the theories about the American Indians being descendants of the Lost Ten Tribes and the descriptions of what were being found in the Indian mounds were in the newspapers. The speculation was there. That was extremely important as was the anti-Masonic material. The anti-Masonic excitement was very strong at that time. Then I went to the Library of Congress and the New York Public Library. The New York Public Library has the best Mormon collection in the country outside of Salt Lake City, Utah.

I did go to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Independence, MO, and I did go to the library of Salt Lake City for some periodicals, early Mormon periodicals that I couldn’t get anywhere else. I was permitted to see those, but I was not permitted to see any manuscript material.

Q: Are those church archives open now? I read a comment indicating that it was believed that your book would open archival material.

A: It had the reverse effect. The archives were largely closed to scholars after my book came out. But in recent years they have become open again. The new man who is head of the church historian’s office, Leonard Arrington, a fine historian, is much more liberal in his attitude than the older historians. The younger scholars are now being given access to the archives in a way they were not before. I think this was long overdue but a very good trend.

Nelson Mandela 100th Birthday

NELSON MANDELA TURNS 100

Born 7/18/1918

Today it is my HONOR to post on my website, that one of the greatest men who ever lived would have turned 100 years old today.

Writer, President (non-U.S.), Civil Rights Activist (1918–2013)

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (July 18, 1918 to December 5, 2013) was a nonviolence anti-apartheid activist, politician and philanthropist who became South Africa’s first black president from 1994 to 1999.

Becoming actively involved in the anti-apartheid movement in his 20s, Mandela joined the African National Congress in 1942.

For 20 years, he directed a campaign of peaceful, nonviolent defiance against the South African government and its racist policies.

Beginning in 1962, Mandela spent 27 years in prison for political offenses.

In 1993, Mandela and South African President F.W. de Klerk were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to dismantle the country’s apartheid system.

For generations to come, Nelson Mandela will continue to be a source of inspiration for civil rights activists worldwide. (SOURCE)

You know – if you really look into history, this was truly a great man. He spent 27 years in PRISON for Political Offenses – then got out, became President, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

What a great example, of someone, who after 27 years in a Prison, was able to come out – and change the world.

Let’s continue to learn, inspire, love, and make 2018 one of the Best Damn Year’s to be alive.

NEVER GIVE UP – and MAY GOD ANSWER YOUR PRAYERS. LIVE LONG AND PROSPER !!!

Heath Ledger Died at 28

Was the Mandela Effect real?

Why do all these people remember the same thing that I do, but it was not real? Heath was really cool, I liked his work and his attitude.

I did not realize that he had died at 28. Maybe just a coincidence – but far too young. You would be shocked at the vibration of the number 28.

Most of us are too busy to pursue these strange coincidences, and we all have debt, financial issues, stress, hard jobs, and family troubles. We all do.

Someone told me yesterday the retiring age was 55 when he was a child. Now they are trying to move it up to 70. This guy told me “they are trying to work us to death”.
Well – we can enjoy every single day. We can count our blessings. We can love our family, our friends, we can help the poor. We can give to others who need. We can be better people. This is why I still work on this website. To dream and inspire greater.
In my life I have been to many dark places, some of them it would be difficult to write about. Many times I would ask, why God. Why was I given this hard of a life?
I am writing my autobiography and will share it with you all when it is published. At this rate, I have set the release to August, 20th, 2028.

Here is a riddle for you.

You saw me where I never was and where I could not be. And yet within that very place, my face you often see.
What do you think the answer is? I was never good at riddles.
Behold, my reflection. That is the answer. I really didn’t come too close myself. Want another one?
It is greater than God and more evil than the devil. The poor have it, the rich need it and if you eat it you’ll die. What is it?
Think about that for a min – the answer is very simple. What is greater than God?

….

——– >

Nothing. Nothing is greater than God, nothing is more evil than the devil, the poor have nothing, the rich need nothing and if you eat nothing you’ll die.

The word ‘riddle’ describes a statement or question, which directly requires a concrete answer or presents a puzzle whose hidden meaning has to be deciphered. There are two kinds of riddles. First there is the enigma – a metaphorically expressed riddle – and second there is a conundrum –  a very tricky problem usually including a pun in its question or answer. An example for a conundrum would be: “What is the difference between a jeweler and a jailer?” – “One sells watches and the other watches cells.”

One more:

I am always hungry and will die if not fed, whatever I touch will soon turn red.

The answer is Fire.

I just want to tell you all, that Mr. Paul Michael Black was my brother. He died in August 20th, 2006. He leaped off a mountain in Maryland. It was not his fault. Paul, we both know why that all happened. I prayed to the most high God to have him have mercy on your soul. I love you, brother.

The Number 28

Posting on the 28th day of December 2016. The energy has brought me back to my humble site yet again. Unbelievable.

The election has produced some unexpected results. Very proud of the democratic process and of my country. I can only hope for the best, but I like what I have been seeing lately when I follow politics.

The direction of this site always changes as I do, and seems the course is changing yet again. More about this on my next post.

It has been a pleasure to post on this site, to dream bigger and inspire greater. I am going to do another post on the first 28th day of 2017. I plan to continue the site on my terms, during times when my thoughts have come together full circle. May you all by the grace of god find your destiny and live everyday to the fullest.

This is the last post in 2016, as I look back through all this content it leaves a trail on my mind and conscience – to follow if I ever loose my way.

Never let people take your spirit, never give up, never forget that.

Issac Newton

newton-photo

Issac Newton was one of the greatest scientists of all time.

He laid out the three laws of motion in his masterpiece Principia Mathematica. He discovered the law of universal gravitation, the famous inverse-distance-squared law. Also he wrote deeply about light and optics after performing his own original experiments on light.

This guy invented calculus. He rejected the authority of the great Greek philosopher Aristotle and promoted experiment-based science. He challenged the established laws, theories, and ideas.

What was interesting to me was he was a very deep believer in a higher power. I never knew that..newton-photo-pound

He spent decades delving in the secrets of alchemy and science, but even longer studying the Bible, theology and church history.

Newton wrote 1.3 million words about theology and Biblical prophecy. He was a Christian. This all amounts to far more words written about  theology than all of Newton’s  writings about science combined.

His passion for the study of God’s word the Bible and it’s history was equally as consuming as all his interests in science and physics.

At the time of his death, he left more than a million words of notes on the Bible.

Six years after his death, Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel and the Apocalypse of St. John was published. Not only was Isaac a great scientist but also a dedicated student of the Bible.

One of Newton’s writings about the bible I will share with you.

Newton found multiple examples throughout history of reformations by God:

The worship which is due to this God we are to give to no other nor to ascribe anything absurd or contradictions to his nature or actions lest we be found to blaspheme him or to deny him or to make a step towards atheism or irreligion. . . .

For as often as mankind has swerved from them, God has made a reformation. When the sons of Adam erred and the thoughts of their heart became evil continually, God selected Noah to people a new world. And when the posterity of Noah transgressed and began to invoke dead men,

God selected Abraham and his posterity. And when they transgressed in Egypt God reformed them by Moses. And when they relapsed to idolatry and immorality, God sent Prophets to reform them and punished them by the Babylonian captivity. And when they that returned from captivity, mixed human inventions with the law of Moses under the name of traditions, and laid the stress of religion not upon the acts of the mind, but upon outward acts and ceremonies, God sent Christ to reform them.

And when the nation received him not, God called the Gentiles. And now the Gentiles have corrupted themselves, we may expect that God in due time will make a new reformation. And in all the reformations of religion hitherto made, the religion in respect of God and our neighbor is one and the same religion . . . so that this is the oldest religion in the world.

Aristotle and Plato lived about four hundred years before Christ and their impact on Western culture has been considerable. Newton was certainly heavily influenced by Jesus Christ and the early Christian writers, for he quoted them abundantly in his writings. Newton was born on the same day in 1642 that Galileo passed away, and he used many of Galileo’s findings in developing his famous laws of motion. Isaac Newton died in 1727.

Real quick – Galileo Galilei, though famous for his scientific achievements in astronomy, mathematics, and physics, and infamous for his controversy with the church was, in fact, a devout Christian who saw not a divorce of religion and science but only a healthy marriage: “God is known by nature in his works, and by doctrine in his revealed word.”

Very inspiring that the father of modern science would be so interested in the word. My personal take on the bible is many kings and rulers have tried to destroy it. You were killed if you had possession of one. Somehow it survived thousands of years. Coincidence?

We respect whatever you believe, all religions, all races, all people with a beating heart. However – I find it striking that these men who were so brilliant wrote about the word.

I also do not belong to a church at this time, the word of god is in your heart, your blood, and it needs not money or showmanship but real love and belief in the light.

“What we know is a drop, what we don’t know is an ocean.” – ISSAC NEWTON
